Privacy, Safety and Consent

Path to Nobel enrols students from 9th grade through college, so most of our student authors are under 18. This page says, in plain language, what we collect, what we publish, what we ask permission for, and what we never do. It applies to the registration form, the cohort portal, and the published books.

Who gives permission

For any student under 18, a parent or legal guardian gives permission at registration, by name. Paying the enrolment fee is not treated as consent for anything beyond enrolment itself. Students aged 18 or over give permission for themselves.

What we ask permission for

Three things, asked separately. Only the first is a condition of enrolment.

• Publication of the chapter (required). Your student's chapter is published in the Path to Nobel anthology with your student credited as co-author. The Association for Human Development holds the publication and intellectual property rights to the published work. Publishing the chapter is what the programme is, so we say plainly that this one is required rather than offering a choice that isn't one.
• Name, school and photograph (optional). We may print your student's name and school, and include their photograph, in the book and on pathtonobel.org. Without this permission the student is published under first name and last initial, and no photograph or school is shown.
• Promotion (optional). We may use the chapter, name and photograph in future promotion of Path to Nobel — the website, social media and printed material.

Declining either optional permission changes nothing about your student's place in the cohort, their mentor, the support they receive, or whether their chapter is published.

Withdrawing permission

You can withdraw either optional permission at any time by writing to the address on our Contact page. We will remove the material from the website and from all future printings, and stop using it in promotion. We cannot recall books that have already been printed and sold, and we would rather say that here than at the moment you ask.

What we never publish

A student's home address, phone number, email address, or date of birth. Anything that identifies where a student can be found in person.

Mentor sessions

Live sessions are group sessions run by Dr. Rao or an assigned mentor. Mentors are not given students' home addresses or phone numbers; contact happens in the scheduled sessions and through programme channels. Sessions are not recorded unless parents are told beforehand what the recording is for and how long it is kept, and a parent may ask that their student's camera stay off.

What we hold, and who can see it

Registration details for the student and, for under-18s, the parent or guardian; payment status; mentor assignment; progress through the masterclass; and the student's submitted work. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us. Programme staff and the student's assigned mentor can see this information. We do not sell student data or share it with anyone outside the programme.

We keep registration and programme records while the volume is in progress and until the printed books have been delivered. After that, a parent may ask us to delete the registration record; the published chapter remains published.
